Raise a glass and toast the season with Autumn Apple Cider Sangria! This easy fall drink recipe is made with fruit, apple cider, white wine, spiced rum, and sparkling water. Don't forget the cinnamon stick for garnish! It's the perfect drink for Halloween parties, Thanksgiving dinner, and Christmas get togethers.
Apple Cider Sangria
Up until a few years ago, Dennis and I would make an annual autumn pilgrimage to New York state. We would pick apples, eat vegan food, buy farm fresh produce, and have a relaxing good time. Our favorite apple orchard happens to also be home to a really good winery. So in addition to apples, pumpkins, and winter squash, we would also load up the car with wine.
The fridgeβs produce drawer would overflow apples and there were always quite a few bottles of vino in our wine rack. Why not combine the two in a refreshing sangria? My white wine of choice for this drink is riesling (riesling is always my wine of choice!), but any white will do.
Is Wine Vegan?
You would think that fermented grapes would be vegan, but not all wines are. Animal products are sometimes used during the filtration process. Winemakers have been known to use things like isinglass, albumen, casein, and gelatin, to filter their vino.
Some of my favorite vegan wines are Frey, Our Daily Red (which doesn't make white wine), The Vegan Vine, and L'Auratae.
The best websites to look up your favorite wine is Barnivore.com. You can also contact the manufacturer directly to make sure their wine isn't made with animal ingredients.
What Is Sangria?
Sangria is an alcoholic punch that originates in Spain and Portugal. It's traditionally made with red wine, chopped fruit, and other spirits. Sometimes fruit juice, sweeteners, and spices are added. It can be traced back to the 18th century.
This sangria is made with white wine, which makes it sangria blanca. White wine sangria is a more modern twist on the drink.

Recipe Notes
