    Strawberry Lemon White Wine Sangria

Sangria seems to be a summertime party essential. I serve this drink quite often at warm weather gatherings and it's always a big hit with my guests. I like to serve it at potlucks and cookouts. It's a Memorial Day must!

I've seen recipes that use sugary sodas and lots of white sugar, which I don't think are needed since fruit adds a natural sweetness. So, I've created my own recipe that uses sparkling water and a little agave or maple syrup.

    What is Sangria?

Sangria is an alcoholic punch that originates in Spain and Portugal. It's traditionally made with red wine, chopped fruit, and other spirits. Sometimes fruit juice, sweeteners, and spices are added. It can be traced back to the 18th century.

This sangria is made with white wine, which makes it sangria blanca. White wine sangria is a more modern twist on the drink.

What You Need to Make White Wine Sangria

To make sangria, you just need a few ingredients.

    • A bottle of white wine
    • Silver rum
    • Lemon sparkling water
    • Agave or maple syrup (or more to taste)
    • Frozen strawberries
    • Fresh lemons

See the recipe card for specific amounts.

If you don't drink alcohol, you can use an alcohol-free wine, such as Fre or Surely and skip the rum.

How to Make White Wine Sangria

This recipe couldn't be easier to make!

    • You just mix everything together in a pitcher. If you're not serving it right away, place your pitcher in the fridge to chill
    • Add ice when you're ready to serve.

    Recipe Notes

I like to use flavored sparkling water, as it adds a little extra fruitiness to the boozy drink, but you can use plain if you can't find it. Fresh strawberries can be used in the place of frozen, but I prefer to use frozen fruit as it acts like ice and helps keep the drink cool while I prepare for my guests.

    Is Wine Vegan?

You would think that fermented grapes would be vegan, but not all wines are. Animal products are sometimes used during the filtration process. Winemakers have been known to use things like isinglass, albumen, casein, and gelatin, to filter their vino.

Some of my favorite vegan wines are Frey, Our Daily Red (which doesn't make white wine), The Vegan Vine, and L'Auratae.

The best websites to look up your favorite wine is Barnivore.com. You can also contact the manufacturer directly to make sure their wine isn't made with animal ingredients.
