Vegan pie recipes, including both sweet treats and savory tarts, are a pie lovers dream come true! Chow down on homemade pot pie, hearty lentil shepherd's pie, dairy free key lime pie, and much more!

    Vegan Pie Recipes

    Pi Day

Happy Pi Day! For those non-nerds reading this, Pi Day is March 14, which is also known as 3.14. March 14... 3.14... pi... get it? These vegan pie recipes will help you celebrate the holiday deliciously.

    Vegan Pie

In the past, I've celebrated Pi Day with pie-themed vegan potlucks. People have made pizza pies, various savory tarts, vegan variations on shepherd's pie, apple pie, chocolate pie, and the list goes on. It's always a fun and delicious time.

The pie potlucks have fallen by the wayside in recent years. Not because my love of pie has waned, but because life has gotten in the way. In lieu of a potluck this year, I'm sharing some of my favorite vegan pie recipes. I guess this can be considered a virtual potluck!

Savory Piesplate with tomato tartlets with lemon, pesto, and tomatoes

    Tomato Tartlets with Spinach Pesto

These little tartlets are perfect Pi Day snacks or appetizers. They're also great for potlucks, because everyone can have their own little mini pie – no pie server required!

    slice of tart from above

    Caramelized Mushroom and Onion Tart

This recipe won Best Main Dish in the 2014 Virtual Vegan Potluck, and was a favorite at last year's real-life Pi Day potluck

asparagus and tomato tart with lemon, tomatoes, asparagus, basil, and spatula

    Asparagus and Tomato Tart

I imagine that if you could taste spring, it would taste like this tart. This is a good dish with which to welcome the new season.

tamale pie with tomatoes, scallions, parsley, and olives

    Tempeh Tamale Pie

I created this recipe several years ago for a Pi Day potluck and it was a big hit.

Shepherd’s Pie overhead with slice and casserole dish

Shepherd’s Pie with Cauliflower-Millet Mash Crust

This recipe uses cauliflower-millet mash for the crust, rather than the traditional mashed potatoes, for a healthy twist.

    slice of lasagna tart

    Lasagna Tart

This dish, made with cashew ricotta and slices of fresh zucchini, is always a crowd pleaser. I like to make it for potlucks, but it's so good I don't always want to share!

    greens pie in casserole dish

    Greens Pie

This recipe is a healthy twist on shepherd’s pie. It’s loaded with veggies and leafy greens and topped off with a millet-amaranth crust.

Chickpea Pot Pie from The Truly Healthy Vegan Cookbook

    Chickpea Pot Pie

Pot pie is the ultimate in comfort food! This easy recipe is from my book The Truly Healthy Vegan Cookbook!

    Pizza Pies

Vegan Potato, Pesto, and Arugula Pizza sliced

Peaceful Potato, Pesto, and Arugula Pizza

Pizza is round and has a crust, so it counts as pie. The blend of arugula, pesto, potatoes, and mushrooms is one of my favorite combos, and this is one of my favorite pizzas.

Grilled Pesto Tart from VBQ: The Ultimate Vegan Barbecue Cookbook vertical

    Grilled Pesto Tart

If you’ve never made pizza on the grill, you need to change that! Start with this recipe from VBQ: The Ultimate Vegan Barbecue Cookbook by Nadine Horn and Jörg Mayer.

    greek pizza on pizza paddle

    Greek Pizza with Tofu Feta

This pizza was inspired by one of my favorite salads, and it’s proof positive that everything tastes better on a crust.

pizza with olives, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, and pizza cutter

    Green and White Pizza

I really love pesto on pizza, and something magical happens when you pair it with cashew ricotta.

    Sweet Pies

slice of pie with cashew cream, chocolate chips, strawberries, and mint

    Sunbutter and Chocolate Pretzel Pie

This decadent pie is made with just six ingredients and it comes together in a matter of minutes!

Vegan Chocolate Cream Pie with strawberries

    Chocolate Cream Pie

Of course, you can't have a celebration of pies without dessert pie! Chocolate cream pie is my all-time favorite.

Raw Key Lime Pie from The Blossom Cookbook

    Raw Key Lime Pie

Dennis is not a fan of chocolatey desserts. Key Lime is his favorite, so I make this pie from The Blossom Cookbook for him from time to time, and he loves it.

slice of pie with cashew cream

    Grasshopper Pie

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a slice of no bake vegan grasshopper pie. Made with chocolate and mint, this dairy-free version of the classic dessert contains good-for-you ingredients like walnuts and avocados, but no one will know unless you tell them.

blueberry pie with lemons, strawberries, mint, and cashew cream

    Raw Blueberry Pie

This easy, no-bake blueberry pie recipe doesn’t require an oven, so it’s ideal for the hot summer months, when the last thing you want to do is heat up your kitchen with a hot stove.

What's your favorite type of pie?

Uh oh. Are you saying that if I already knew about Pi Day then by default I'm a nerd? Well, I guess this doesn't come as a huge shock. I love the mix of both savory and sweet pies. So much deliciousness! I also had to laugh at your comment about the lasagna tart photo. I was thinking the same thing about the pizza I shared from 2012 on Facebook. It's definitely time for a reshoot!

Well, I'm a nerd, too, so you're in good company!
It's funny how I thought my older blog posts looked good at the time, and they look absolutely awful now! I used to take pictures with my original iPhone on my kitchen counter!
