It’s so easy to make your own taco seasoning at home! This homemade taco seasoning mix recipe is prepared with just a few ingredients, and it comes together in a matter of minutes!

    Taco Tuesday

Taco Tuesday is a regular event in my house. And tacos aren’t just served on Tuesdays here. We frequently have them on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, too. Sometimes I even like to make tacos on a Monday, so I know the week will be off to a good start!

    spice rack

I have so many herbs and spices in my Ikea-hacked spice rack that it doesn’t really make sense for me to buy a taco seasoning packet every time I want to make homemade tacos. Instead, I like to pull a few jars off the spice rack and throw a bit of this and a little of that into my vegan taco filling. Recently, to make things easy for myself, I made up a big batch of taco seasoning mix and added it to my ever-growning collection of spices.

    Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

My homemade taco seasoning recipe is made with spices that most people have on hand in their kitchens. So, it’s more economical to make your own taco seasoning at home than it is to by those packets.

By making your own seasoning, you can control the ingredients. Some store-bought taco seasoning packet ingredients include such things as sugar, modified corn starch, silicon dioxide, and “natural flavors.” When listed on an ingredient list, natural flavors could be just about anything. They could even be animal-sourced, so unless the product says it’s vegan on the label, there’s no way to know for sure.

Choose Your Own Taco Seasoning Adventure

When you make your seasoning mix at home, you can also control the level of heat. If you like your tacos spicy, you can increase the amount of crushed red pepper or even add a little cayenne pepper. If you prefer mild tacos, you can omit the crushed red pepper altogether.

This homemade taco seasoning mix recipe is super easy to make. You just throw everything toegether and mix it up! I like to add all of the ingredients together in a jar and give it a good shake.

I’ll be sharing one of my favorite taco recipes next week, so stay tuned!
