    Vegan Avocado Chocolate Mousse

I’ve served this Avocado Chocolate Mousse to friends for dessert at dinner parties, and they’re always amazed when I tell them that the smooth and creamy base is avocado. It’s a popular recipe in my cooking classes, and students are always amazed at how easy it is to make a delicious, yet healthy, dessert.

How to Make Avocado Chocolate Mousse

This puddling like mousse recipe is super easy to make!

    • First you coarsely mash your avocados.
    • Then you add it to a food-processor fitted with an s-blade with the rest of the ingredients. Process it all until it's smooth and creamy.
    • Place your avocado mousse in the fridge for at least 2 hours before you serve it.

    Recipe Notes

After you mix your mousse in the food processor, you might want to check it to see if it's sweet enough for you. If not, you an add a little more maple syrup. Keep in mind that it will sweeten a little as it's chilled.

I like to make my mousse with raw cacao powder, but regular unsweetened, natural cocoa powder can be used, as well.

    Serving Your Avocado Chocolate Mousse

I like to serve my mousse with a dollop of Vanilla Cashew Cream and fresh berries. You can serve it on graham crackers, for a s'mores like treat.

You can freeze your Avocado Chocolate Mousse and server it like ice cream, too.

Store your mousse in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

    Chocolate History

Chocolate has a long history of being used as an aphrodisiac.

It’s said that Aztec emperor Montezuma consumed 50 cups of hot chocolate a day in order to satisfy his many wives. In his memoirs, Casanova claims to have consumed many of cups of chocolate a day in order to keep up his stamina.

Chocolate contains tryptophan, which is a building block for the feel-good hormone serotonin. It also contains phenethylamine, which is a stimulant that’s released in the brain when we fall in love. Cacao contains magnesium, Vitamin C, antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids.

    Avocado History

The Aztec word for avocado is “ahucatl” which also means testicle. The name came not only from the fruit’s physical appearance, but also from their ability to incite passion. And the fact that they usually grow in pairs. The Aztecs wouldn’t allow virgin women to leave the house while avocados were harvested, fearful of avocado-induced misconduct.

The avocado’s reputation as an aphrodisiac has been carried throughout so many cultures that when it came time to put together an advertising campaign for them in the U.S., the ads denied their libido boosting properties with the hope of tempting people to indulge in the forbidden fruit. The secret to the avocado’s lure is in the nutritional properties it holds. Avocados are packed with beta carotene, potassium, magnesium, protein, and vitamin E.

Whether or not you’re whipping up this dessert on Valentine's Day for its aphrodisiac properties, it’s full of healthful ingredients, and it’s a great way to get your chocolate fix.

There is definitely something sexy about chocolate pudding! And I love the idea of pairing it with a little cookie wafer - great contrast of texture. Delicious!

That's hilarious that Aztecs worried virgin women would go off the straight and narrow if they witnessed the avocado harvest! The mousse looks delicious & so full-bodied.

Thanks, Cadry! Yes, it is cashew cream. I need measure when I make it, but I guess I should write down what I do sometime.

These are really delicious! I made these for an anniversary meal last year and then froze additional ones to have as frozen treats later on.
As a moose they are very tasty and very rich!
Once frozen, the avocado flavour seemed to become more apparent but still really tasty.
